Together, we’re hiring a Senior Project Manager – Defence Investment & Commercial Specialist to support major Defence initiatives.
About the Role
The Senior Project Manager – Defence Investment & Commercial Specialist will lead the delivery of complex Defence programs with a focus on achieving capability outcomes while maintaining compliance with commercial, contractual, and governance requirements. This role demands strategic oversight, commercial acumen, and strong stakeholder engagement, with particular emphasis on navigating Defence’s Investment Committee and Gateway Review processes.
You will be responsible for developing detailed business cases and project documentation, managing performance, and ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget expectations. In addition to leading project teams, the successful candidate will drive commercial negotiations and contract management activities, contributing to high-value, high-risk programs.
Salary Range
Salaries for Senior Project Manager – Defence Investment & Commercial Specialist roles range from $170k to $230k including super.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Defence project delivery across complex capability programs
Manage Defence Investment Committee and Gateway Review processes, including business cases and supporting briefs
Develop and control project scope, budgets, and schedules in coordination with stakeholders
Oversee contract and procurement activities in accordance with Defence and Commonwealth frameworks
Identify and mitigate project risks and resolve challenges proactively
Prepare and present detailed reports to senior Defence executives
Manage project teams and drive high performance and strategic alignment
Build and maintain trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Skills and Experience
Security Clearance: NV1 (Minimum) required
Demonstrated success in managing Defence or government projects with commercial oversight
Expertise in Defence investment planning, including Gateway Reviews and Investment Committee submissions
Strong commercial, procurement, and contract management experience
Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills
Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Jira)
Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business, or related field
Certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, or CPPM highly regarded
